2008 Season - Derby Phoenix Formula 400 Championship

Looking back on the 2008 racing season with Derby Phoenix, which was only my second full season of racing overall it was full of ups and downs.
I started the season positive with an aim to improve on my third
overall place in the 2007 Derby Phoenix Formula 400 Championship
and top novice.  We got off to some solid results running in the top
5 consistently on our 2007 race bike.  A few rounds in our 2008
race bike was ready to use and better than our 2007 bike.
Unfortunately we had a few electrical problems through out the year
causing some unwanted DNF’s which set us up for a very close
battle for second place in the championship which went right
down to the last round and last race which was at Cadwell 20th-21st
September.  We went into Cadwell 3 points in front of the charging
Chris Smith and came away second in the championship by 3 points.
Me and Chris had some close races which I beat him twice and he beat
me twice, one being as close as 0.04 over the line.  I finished 5th and
three 6th places at Cadwell and more importantly finishing second
overall (first Four Stroke) in the 2008 Derby Phoenix Formula 400

Championship which was an improvement on last years finish.

2007 Season - Derby Phoenix Formula 400 Championship

3rd in the Championship and 1st Novice

2007 Review
Derby Phoenix F400

At the start of the 2007 season (my first full season) I had my goal of becoming the Formula 400 Novice champion and top 10 in the Formula 400 championship.
The season got underway at croft where I had never been before starting last on the grid as I didn't know grids where determined on how early your first entry was due to it being my first year.  I finished 11th which turned out to be my joint worst result all year and only one of two results which were outside the top 10.  We improved all weekend to come away with a best and my best 6th in the formula 400 and 4 novice wins.  We then moved on to Mallory and then Cadwell were I put in some good results inside the top 10 were my goals were and the start of the year.  Cadwell saw my best result so far which was 4th in the formula 400 just missing out on my first trophy in the Formula 400 class.  So far still unbeaten in the novice championship.  We then went back to a soaked Mallory park were I led my first race from the start for two laps but ended up in 6th and the 7th which I was slightly disappointed with but was still unbeaten Novice taking both wins of the day.  The next round was at Brands Hatch which I was really looking forward to.  I decided to do both open 400 and formula 400 classes as it was such a long way for just the usually 2 races.  First race was in the open and I had my first and only crash of the year!  First ever open 400 race and I ended up on my ear! good job I was only using it for practice.  The most important formula 400 races went well, with my confidence knocked I finished 6th and 8th in the formula and 2 wins in the novice championship.  Next up was another new track to me, Snetterton and after an electrical fault with my bike in practice I didn't even manage a lap so was slightly worried about the races! The races went well considering and finished 7th, 8th on Saturday and 6th and 7th on the Sunday.  I was also the first novice in all 4 races which meant I was the 2007 Formula 400 Novice Champion with a 100% record. Donington was next which I have always wanted to ride and it didn't disappoint. I loved it even though I was suffering from tonsillitis.  I finished 5th in both races having some close battles.  First novice home keeping my unbeaten record up to yet.  Then back to my team G&S racings local track of Cadwell Park having some very close races coming away with two 3rds, 4th and a 5th.  I only managed to be first novice home in 2 of the 4 races here which ended my unbeaten record after an impressive showing by Gary Beardsley.  Next was another track I have always wanted to ride, Oulton Park, very impressed with the track and cannot wait to go back.  I came away with two 6th and first novice in both.  Then to the last round of the championship which was at Cadwell Park.  I had a real close first race coming 5th just 0.30 seconds off 3rd. And finished 3rd in the last race of the year earning my first Formula 400 trophy.
I finished the 2007 season the Formula 400 Novice champion and 3rd place in the Formula 400 Championship also being the only rider to score in every race and I am extremely proud of it all and would like to thank everyone who has helped me through out the year I could not of done it without the help of Graham and Sue(G&S Racing), dad Mark for preparing engines, Rob and Stacey, number one fan Sam, Kelly, Lee and Karen, Les Jayne and Sean, all at Sutterton Caravans, Micron exhausts, Pidcock motorcycles and all the family support.
Thanks Tom Fisher #175

Throughout the 2007 season I also had my first ride on a 600 at Darley Moor thanks to Phil Murden winning the novice memorial  trophy race and gaining much needed experience.

2006 Season - Derby Phoenix Formula 400 Championship

Tom's started his race career at Cadwell Park on Saturday 12th August 2006. In the first race Tom started 34th at the back of the grid and finished an impressive 20th place and the 8th place novice. The second race Tom was placed 20th on the grid and finished 15th (7th place novice) scoring his first points in his second race of his career. Sunday 13th August saw race three with Tom starting 15th on the grid and a 17th place finish (6th novice). Race four Tom started 17th finishing 22nd (6th novice). Tom's first race weekend went very well with him scoring his first points in the Derby Phoenix Championship.

2nd meeting at Oulton Park 2/09/2006 - Tom went out for his first wet practice and he loved every minute of it and could not wait for the race. Starting 20th on the grid Tom had a great start and by the first corner was in 5th place and 4th by the second and could see the leaders. Tom kept up with the leaders in 5th place until on the last lap Tom crashed out with only two corners to go. The bike was to badly damaged for race two.

The next race meeting took Tom to Cadwell Park on the 23rd - 24th March 2006.
Race one - started 25th finished 16th (3rd novice)
Race two - started 16th finished 17th (4th novice)
Race three - started 17th but crashed on the last lap while running just outside the top ten.
Race four - started last on the grid but had a technical problem so DNF.

Tom also competed in two rounds at Darley Moor in 2006 with a best finish of 7th. He also won two trophies at the Darley Moor Circuit in the newcomers races for being the first 400 novice.
